Why be modest? Dephazz describes itself in the band biography as 'the godfathers of lounge'. We'll take that breast-tapping with a wink, because Dephazz frontman Pit Baumgartner likes a joke. Still, there is a grain of truth in that bluff: Dephazz has been doing well for ten years now with their smooth mix of languid funk, sultry bossa nova and swinging electronics. This is no different on Lala 2.0,
… because despite the '2.0' from the title, the innovations on this eighth album are not too spectacular. The dark brown voices of regular guest vocalists Karl Frierson and Pat Appleton provide fine soulful accents. There is a summery atmosphere on this album. So it's not surprising that this album will be released in early July, because Dephazz's music thrives best in combination with beach, tapas and prosecco. This is a nice lounge that is fortunately more than just musical wallpaper. (PdK)more
