With an album title like Still Standing you indicate that you have had a lot to endure in your life, but persist despite that. Singer Monica has the right attitude in that regard. She has to live with the fact that her ex, the rapper C-Murder, was sentenced to life for murder and that her new boyfriend took his own hand. In a time of depression and denial, the singer has released a number of records.
Still Standing is her latest addition and at the start of this album, Monica shows with the words 'They say, whatever don't kill you, makes you stronger, well I must be the world's strongest woman' that she has been through a lot. The productions feature a contemporary sound that we could have encountered on any other R&B CD. The only difference is that in this case we are an adult, an experienced woman singing who, with her presence, provides the productions with a soul. (GL)more
