Those who, like the undersigned, consider the music for About A Boy to be his best work, will be delighted with this album by Damon Gough, aka Badly Drawn Boy. It contains the music he wrote especially for the television film The Fattest Man In Britain by director David Blair, supplemented with songs that were also inspired by the movie. They are fragmentary pieces of music, almost fragments, and
… the melancholic melody lines come back in different arrangements. The whole makes an unfinished impression. That is precisely the strength of Badly Drawn Boy, who barely managed to charm the moment he intended to make a full-fledged album, with the pompous Born In The UK from 2006 as the most recent example. With Is There Nothing We Could Do, Badly Drawn Boy seems to have finally recovered, four years after that debacle. (MS)more
