, , , , the entire Britpop scene: they are all indebted to Echo & The Bunnymen, the group from Liverpool that made a number of albums full of atmospheric and dark pop from the end of the 70s and never really broke through to a large audience. The band disbanded in 1988 with vocalist / guitarist and guitarist changed their minds and returned in 1997 with the album Evergreen. In the meantime,
… their second life has lasted longer than the first and although the concerts invariably rely heavily on old material, they sporadically release new work. The Fountain does not add anything new to the band sound and therefore does not sound good or bad. It sounds like Echo & The Bunnymen. Of course less urgent than classics like and but certainly still inspired. In terms of success, they will no longer pass their many famous followers with it. (MR)more
