Okay, let's try it again: The Heavy is the nicest band in England. They already proved this with their debut album Great Vengeance And Furious Fire and the subsequent club tour in which the group worked up a sweat with their dirty mix of raw soul and thumping sixties rock. The Heavy turned out to be an old-fashioned good live band that fortunately managed to keep the energy alive on the sheet metal.
Exactly two years after the promising debut, there is this successor and it continues where they left off. Just listen to the stampsoul of the openers How You Like Me Now? and Oh No! Not You Again !!! As the album progresses, the quartet proves that they want (and can) do more than just play their tried-and-true soul rock. The ominous vaudeville blues of Short Change Hero is especially weird, but in the subdued No Time the group surpasses itself. And now we hope that more people are open to their adventurous sound. The Heavy has been warmly awarded it. (PdK)more
