After an incredibly successful career in the late eighties / early nineties, things quickly went downhill for Whitney Houston. The widely reported fight marriage with R&B singer Bobby Brown pushed her musical achievements more and more into the background. After the divorce in 2006, she tries to revive her slumped career. On I Look To You she works together with a series of well-known (Alicia
… Keys, R. Kelly) and lesser-known producers, among which we also discover Giorgio Tuinfort, once the man behind the Dutch r & b group Re-play and now an established name in the American producer world. She can still sing, but it seems that Whitney's most important quality, her sparkling performance, has lost momentum. Her flat version of A Song For You, for instance, adds little to the well-known versions of Leon Russell's evergreen. There is not much wrong with I Look To You, it only barely distinguishes itself within the genre. (MS)more
