British Sea Power is an outsider within britpop. The foursome already stood out with their eccentric live shows even before their debut album was released in 2003. Musically they frame their British-trained pop music mainly with neo-psychedelia. However, there is no pop music on Man of Aran. It was written and performed as the soundtrack to the film of the same name by American director Robert
… Flaherty. This controversial 1934 docudrama deals with the hardships of the people of the Irish island of Aran and can be seen on the accompanying DVD with the new soundtrack. But on CD the music, full of silent soundscapes and slowly constructed symphonic post-rock, is perhaps even better. Sounds to dream away and to shape your own images. Apart from a cover of Come Wander With Me, Man of Aran is entirely instrumental. A beautiful album with which this creative company transcends itself. (MR)more
