John Martyn is dead, long live Fink: you almost think when you listen to the third album by this singer / songwriter from Brighton. Like Martyn, Fink combines both relaxed and profound jazz-folk with influences from soul, world music and dub. In addition, he has a pleasantly light voice that, thanks to a raw frayed edge, will never sound drawl. Fin Greenall, as Fink really is called, first worked
… as a producer before discovering his talents as a singer / songwriter. It can be heard clearly on this album, which was released on the dance label Ninja Tune. The subtle rhythmic accompaniment and atmospheric dub effects adorn introspective songs exemplary. But because of that never-ending modesty, the album as a whole doesn't want to continue to fascinate. Somewhere halfway through the songs become interchangeable and Sort Of Revolution threatens to become background music. Very moody and responsible background music, yes. (MR)more
