With his debut album The Bigger Picture, released in 2006, singer / songwriter Jonathan Vandenbroeck, aka Milow, broke through in his native Belgium. Only two years later does the single You Don't Know from that album also reach the Dutch media. This has created the strange situation that Milow's first CD appears in the album charts when his second is released. Coming Of Age shows, as the title
… says, a more mature artist. The lyrics are more elaborate, the music a lot heavier than on his debut. Under production direction by Jo Francken, the album was recorded in just three days, live and with virtually no overdubs. Milow lays the same honesty in his lyrics, which have a naivety that is alternately disarming (Coming Of Age) and embarrassing (Canada). Milow moves in the same vein as James Taylor, but lacks his talent for poetry. What you hear is what you get, on a record that unfortunately does not go into depth enough. (MS)more
