Ten years ago, Gomez was hailed in England as the new hope for British rock with their debut album. That was right, Bring It On (1998) was a great album. The group was even awarded the prestigious Mercury Music Prize that same year. Successor Liquid Skin also did very well, but later albums received a lot less attention. As usual, journalistic attention shifted to younger sensations. Nowadays Gomez
… is also on the small ATO Records. It should be noted that Gomez's music may be difficult to fit into the current musical landscape. Not hip enough for a young audience, but also a bit too daring to go through life as a risk-free 'dadrock' favorite. Just like a group such as Motorpsycho, Gomez pursues her willful plan with a balanced sound that is clearly inspired by the rock music of the seventies. With beautiful string arrangements the group colors the picture in a traditional and atmospheric way. (PdK)more
