Pioneer of the new jack swing movement Keith Sweat has said he has sold more than 25 million CDs worldwide since entering the music industry in 1987. However, RIAA claims that the counter is at 13 million. What is clear is that Keith Sweat has had a tremendous impact on R&B. Nine official releases, three of which have been awarded (multi-) platinum, and several productions for R&B greats
… like Dru Hill and The Isley Brothers, make him an R&B heavyweight. The sultry singer was last heard in 2002 with the album Rebirth. His new CD Just Me promises the old, trusted and above all sincere Keith Sweat, but the album title is completely out of place. His unique style of singing has given way to exciting vocals that can best be described as a mix of Maxwell and T-Pain. The music fits well with today's R&B, but that's exactly the problem. In terms of content and production, Just Me is exchangeable for any other R&B album of 2008. It's painful, but Keith Sweat isn't making a great comeback. (GL)more
