Welsh singer Aimee Anne Duffy made it to second place in 2003 with Wawffactor, a kind of Welsh Idols. Probably due to her background in jazz and blues clubs, she did not immediately throw her heart and soul by following the trajectory of the average Idols winner, but she remained faithful to her own repertoire of blue-eyed soul. Rockferry's sound is very reminiscent of the sixties of Phil Spector,
… Motown and Dusty Springfield. All this in clean lines, led by the particularly spherical production of Bernard Butler, Suede's former guitarist. Duffy proves herself as a very creative singer who effortlessly comes up with the most surprising adaptations. Unfortunately her volume occasionally fails at crucial moments, causing her voice to disappear in the arrangement. Her singing also does not sound lived everywhere, a much needed ingredient in soul music. But that will take time. (AD)more
