'The circle is complete', René Froger writes in the booklet accompanying his CD Doe Maar Gewoon, because with this album Froger returns to the Dutch-speaking repertoire. Because although Froger was successful with English-language songs for years, he really started as a boy as a singer of Dutch smartlappen. Froger, son of the Amsterdam bar owner Bolle Jan, made his billiards debut in his father's
… café. Perhaps the phenomenal success of the Dutch-language sing-alongs during the Toppers concerts put René back on the track of the song of life. For Doe Maar Gewoon, Froger collaborated with the renowned songwriting duo Emile Hartkamp and Norus Padidar. The result is a varied album with good listening to other Dutch successful artists. The title track is reminiscent of Hazes, while 't Is Verloren Tijd strongly reminds of Borsato's Ik Leef Niet Voor Jou. Striking songs are the drunkman ballad Zij Sta Je Dan en I Will Always Wait For You, a duet with Karin Bloemen. (PdK)more
