Beloved One, the first solo album by former Lamb singers Lou Rhodes was a great success. The record was even nominated in the UK for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which was ultimately won by the Arctic Monkeys. Beloved One played a completely different Lou Rhodes than in Lamb, the electronics were let go to make way for acoustic instruments. The switch from trip hop to folk was daring, but it turned
… out to work very well in the end. This was of course mainly due to the singing of Rhodes, whose voice had remained unchanged beautiful. On her second CD Bloom she sticks to the acoustic approach, but this time some songs sound a lot heavier and fuller. Opener The Rain for example, which could have been on a Lamb album with the clanging drums (in a slightly different form). Bloom is another beautiful record. (IV)more
