In 2006 the versatile singer Mathilde Santing had been in the musician's profession for twenty-five years. She always wanted to try out as many things as possible to become a complete musician: jazz, pop, children's songs, Dutch repertoire ... the time came to focus on what she most wanted to do. For example giving singing lessons at the Conservatory in Arnhem and doing a theater tour in the Dutch
… repertoire together with Frank Boeijen. Santing's eleventh studio album Under Your Charms says she really has become her own thing. She herself selected thirteen strong English pop songs by Josh Rouse, Tim Hutton, Nathalie Merchant and Sam Cooke, among others. The singer with the hoarse bluesy voice is surrounded by a completely new band, The New Traditions. The CD cover no longer shows Santing as a platinum blonde beauty, but as a spicy brunette. Santing cleaned up her life and is now the old cheerful, flirtatious Mathilde she once was. Her renditions of the atmospheric songs therefore radiate positivism and zest for life. Well worth it!
