In the years after the release of his fourth studio album Juste Avant (1999) a lot changed in the life of the French actor, singer and poker champion Patrick Bruel. He married writer, screenwriter and dramaturge Amanda Sthers and became the father of Oscar and Léon. Because of this Bruel came to life differently; the children brought much joy but also concern about the world in which they grow up.
After the release of the successful cover album Entre Deux (2002) (covers of French songs from the period between the two world wars) it was time again for an album with own material. The album Des Souvenirs Devant ... is his most intimate, introverted and emotional work to date. Bruel's wife contributed to three lyrics and, as usual, Bruel's brother David Moreau took care of the arrangements and production. In a ' vintage music style that evokes associations with 1970s French pop, Bruel sings about his loved ones, about Alzheimer's disease, about terrorist attacks and about the unrest in the Parisian suburbs.
