Keyboardist Oscar de Jong and DJs / producers Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug together form Kraak & Smaak. As half of the duo Wipneus & Pim, Kneppers has now turned the whole of the Netherlands upside down with their seventies and eighties camping disco act. Fortunately, Kraak & Smaak offers more flavor. Their sound is not really innovative. On the one hand, the basis of their sound relies
… on breakbeat from the early nineties as created by acts like Black Machine and Jestofunk (the music from Keep Me Home has even been literally copied), on the other hand the echoes of the big beat from the end of the nineties clearly through. The interpretation is drawn from funk, jazz and Latin. Boogie Angst, however, proves that there is a strong need for this sound. Yet the gentlemen do not go for the least resistance as can be heard on 5 To 4 and Danse Macabre, where the dance floor idea is exchanged for more depth. Meanwhile, the music of Kraak & Smaak has been used in the Dutch film Ik Omhels Je Met Duizend Armen, the film adaptation of Ronald Giphart's book. Boogie Angst therefore appears in a special edition. On the bonus CD, renowned deejays such as Mark Rae, 4 Hero and Rhys Adams have gotten their teeth into tracks by Boogie Angst. In June 2006 Kraak & Smaak is programmed at Pinkpop. (AD) Boogie Angst therefore appears in a special edition.
