The Amsterdam trio Alderliefste, with the singing doctor Gerard Alderliefste as the front man, started in the nineties as a cover band. With a repertoire that consisted of Nederpop classics, the group managed to build up a solid live reputation. After a while the set was expanded with own songs, which could count on positive reactions. A record deal followed, but the singles remained in the middle
… regions of the charts. Through performances at the National Song Festival and Friends of Amstel Live, Alderliefste has become a name that sounds familiar to many. With this album Alderliefste surprises the fans by coming up with a complete French-language album, 'powerchansons' as they call it themselves. Titles such as Route Du Soleil and Crème De La Crème are also easy to understand for the average Dutch person, while Ma Dernière Volonté is an adaptation of Shaffy's Laat Me. Musically Alderliefste still stands for typical Dutch student pop: rock solid but also a bit well behaved and predictable. (MS)more
