With the album Survivor (2001), the R&B girl group Destiny's Child reached the absolute top. Ultimately (at the time of writing) more than 40 million of the group's records were sold worldwide. After a few grueling years, a period was introduced in which Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle devoted themselves mainly to solo projects, which were also very successful in the case of Beyoncé and Kelly.
Anyone who feared the group's final separation will be reassured by the familiar sounding Destiny Fulfilled. But three years is a long time in the R&B world. The sound, which in 2001 was still considered hip and progressive, sounds dated three years later. Change is at most in the lyrics. Where Destiny ' s Child used to represent independent women, the girls now show themselves in the lyrics from a more vulnerable side. But a catchy single á la Independent Women is missing, so Destiny Fulfilled must be considered a disappointment. (MS)more
