With her first single Addictive (2002) the American R&B singer Truth Hurts became a big star in one fell swoop. Everything about the song was right: the production of DJ Quick, who unleashed a new craze in r & b and hip-hop with the used Bollywood sample; the rap of legend Rakim, not to mention the endorsement of Dr. Dre, who signed Truth Hurts to his Aftermath label. But despite all the
… big names who contributed to her debut album Truthfully Speaking, Truth Hurts could no longer match the success of Addictive and she fell into obscurity a bit. It is thanks to Raphael Saadiq (ex-Tony Toni TonĂ©) and his Pookie Entertainment that Truth Hurts gets a new chance and can release her second CD Ready Now. Unfortunately, here too the well-known problem occurs which is so often found on R&B albums: no song is bad, but filling an entire CD with really strong material is asking too much. And the same goes for the vocals of Truth Hurts, which has nothing wrong with it, except that it is (too) little distinguished from the others in the genre. (IV)more
