Chuck Prophet makes songs in the best Americana tradition. First as a member of the band Green On Red and since 1992 solo. The comparison with style companion Wilco is often made, but in fact Chuck Prophet paved the way for bands like Wilco and Son Volt. His previous album No Other Love, featuring radio-friendly songs, was quite successful commercially in both the US and Europe. Age Of Miracles goes
… a bit further and has influences from soul, blues, funk and even a bit of hip hop. The title track is a beautiful roots ballad, that sticks well thanks to a nice wah guitar line. The song You Did has a funny almost camp-like hip-hop verse, which gives the song a corny character. All in all, a varied record. (JdD)more
