PJ (Polly Jean) Harvey has been called the 'queen of alternative rock'. Yet she is also sometimes criticized. Her album (2001) was awarded the prestigious Mercury Prize by the British music press, but was too slick and commercial according to some fans from the beginning. And perhaps too accessible for these fundamentalists, but they can be satisfied with Uh Huh Her (2004). First of all, there are
… the curious album title (and track information) and the cover photo, which breaks with the 'glamorous' image at the time of Stories. Musically Uh Huh Her has a rawer and simpler sound than its predecessor. Harvey recorded everything in her home studio and played all the instruments except for the drums herself, making the CD sound more stripped down. In the lyrics you can hear a still emotional and often angry Polly Jean. Uh Huh Her, however, is not a second or , because Harvey is too versatile an artist for that, who always wants to renew herself. It is an album in itself, which should also be listened to in this way: a new phase in the development of musician Harvey. (IV)more
