Probably the Englishman of Turkish descent Adem Ilhan is not familiar with the Dutch meaning of his name. He would probably be surprised that the word describes the character of his music wonderfully. The songs on Homesongs are calm and even and the arrangements spacious and atmospheric. Ilhan, who is also active as bass player for the band Fridge, made these little listening songs in the evenings
… in his attic room, with some sensitive microphones and minimal recording equipment. The emphasis is on acoustic guitars, occasionally colored with subtle electronics, keys and percussion. Ilhan does not seem to want to disturb the neighbors with his whispering singing. It makes the album an intimate listening experience, nowhere brilliant or earth-shattering but very enjoyable.
