Stefan Betke alias Pole specialized on his first records in beatless dub filled with soundscapes and crackles from the Waldorf Pole filter, from which he gratefully derived his stage name. This resulted in the beautiful trilogy 1, 2 and 3. However, Pole has now discovered the beat. Where this would mean progress for most artists, monotony is the result here. Pole could easily serve as a soundtrack
… for a hike across the North or South Pole; as cool as a horde of penguins, who have just been treated to free popsicles. However, the tracks are extremely suitable for the recitation of the imperturbably rattling rapper Fat Jon, who sounds more like the speech waterfall of an unstoppable poet than someone with a hip-hop background. Pole hangs on the surface a little too much this time. Anything less monotony could have done no harm. (AD)more
