American singer / songwriter / guitarist Chuck Prophet first appeared in Green On Red. With this group he made a number of successful records in the rootsy genre, which mainly resonated in Europe and which in a way paved the way for kindred acts like Wilco and Son Volt. Since 1992 Chuck Prophet has been making solo albums, on which he has always shown himself to be a fan of traditional American
… music such as country, folk and blues. On No Other Love he handles these influences more playfully than ever. The Prophet band occasionally rocks terribly and the whining organs contrast in a pleasant way with the traditional band sound. On That's How Much I Need Your Love we even gently hear influences from disco and surf. This loose approach, which also translates into the texts that put things into perspective, makes No Other Love a very enjoyable album by a sympathetic musician. (MS)more
