The first thing Marc Leclair from Montreal does when he wakes up is turn on the radio. He roams the ether, looking for samples, which he uses for his tech-house productions. Under the name Akufen he believes in something that he himself calls microsampling. Born out of an aversion to commercial sampling, in which entire songs were transposed from one artist to another, he is looking for sound
… fragments from radio shows, commercials, interference or whatever sound waves can be sampled. By rhythmically combining these samples he makes the hooks for his compositions instead of just copying them from someone else. The basis of the tracks is most reminiscent of Herbert's subtle sound. However, you would expect more from the Ninja Tune label. This makes My Way a very striking and original debut. It won't be long before Akufen hears himself on the radio on his sample syrup hunt.
