After the excellent Scottish albums by Belle & Sebastian, The Delgados, Travis, Mogwai and the occasional project Reindeer Section Loss, the debut of Mull Historical Society, is released. The main figure in MHS is singer / songwriter Colin MacIntyre. He was born on the Isle of Mull, off the west coast of Scotland. Once he lived in Glasgow, he played in various bands, until he had written enough
… of his own material. He started Mull Historical Society together with bassist Alan Malloy and drummer Tony Soave. They soon played as the opening act for bands such as Elbow, Travis, Tindersticks and The Strokes. After this flying start they went into the studio to record Loss. The songs on this album are audibly influenced by bands like Pulp, Radiohead, Travis and Teenage Fanclub, as well as The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Connoisseurs know immediately that this is pure pop where the song always comes first. Yet MHS's music sounds quite original and original. MacIntyre has gone to great lengths to make the CD sound exactly as he intended it to.
