The Scottish quartet Travis broke through in 1999 with The Man Who. The album contains friendly guitar pop with sing-along melodies, drawn from the sixties, just like the britpoppers from Cast, Embrace and Oasis. Why Does It Always Rain On Me and Driftwood were hits that paved the way to commercial success in Europe and America. On The Invisible Band, Travis continues down the same path without
… really adding new elements. That makes the album somewhat predictable, despite the fact that it once again contains some nice pop songs. Flowers in The Window (including the sound of screeching seagulls) is a moving song with a Beatle-esque chorus. Follow The Light is wonderfully light-footed and Afterglow contains a nice guitar rhythm that gives the song a melancholy touch. Apart from these outliers, The Invisible Band leaves a less profound impression than its acclaimed predecessor. (BP)more
