Canadian singer / songerwriter Fred J Eaglesmith started his career in the 1980s. In the beginning he was best known in his home state of Ontario, but since 1994 things have changed course and Fred is also loved abroad. Albums like Drive-In Movie (1996) and Lipstick, Lies & Gasoline (1997) and Falling Stars And Broken Hearts (2002) attracted many fans and a big name within the Americana movement.
Compared to previous albums, Dusty is quite sober and bare. Fred is only joined by multi-instrumentalist / producer Scott Merritt and some guests. Every now and then he is accompanied by a cheap little drum computer, which in his case comes into its own; it somewhat fills the chilly empty feeling of the songs. Fred has been compared to Bonnie Prince Billy and Steve Earle. You have to love Fred's voice very much because musically not much happens. (JdD)more
