A warm tribute to Miles Davis is the CD "I remember Miles" by singer / pianist Shirley Horn, to whom Miles was a friend and mentor. Three songs on this CD can also be found on the album "Porgy and Bess" by Miles Davis and three songs are on the album "Seven steps to heaven". "My man's gone now" in this arrangement can be found on "We want Miles". "This hotel" cannot be heard on a Miles Davis record,
… but Horn would have liked to hear him play it. In addition to Horn's regular trio, this CD features renowned jazz musicians such as Roy Hargrove (trumpet / flugelhorn), Buck Hill (tenor saxophone), Toots Thielemans (harmonica), Ron Carter (bass) and Al Foster (drums). Very beautiful and refined are songs like "My funny Valentine", "Summertime" , "I got plenty o 'nuttin'" and "Blue in green". Shirley Horn's CD "I remember Miles" is top level (vocal) jazz! (JW) _more
