After five albums by Madeleine Peyroux, it was time for a live DVD, her producers must have thought. So they packed a small Los Angeles club full of cameras to catch Peyroux in an intimate performance. Most of the set list consisted of tracks from her newly released CD Bare Bones. That means some own compositions in addition to pieces by 's and producer . The latter is also present as a bass
… guitarist, alongside star musicians such as pianist , organist and guitarist . Together with them, Peyroux performs her relaxed mix of acoustic blues, country ballads and lazy jazz. She even ventures into two French-language pieces, including the well-known La Vie En Rose. In short, a great concert, but unfortunately a bit boring to watch. There is actually not much going on on stage and everything is also lit quite darkly. Fortunately, the DVD also includes an interesting documentary about Peyroux's career, including footage of Paris, where she was once discovered as a street artist. (HB)more
