The Lightmen Plus One operated in the shadowy area between jazz, funk and free jazz in the early 1970s. Their music can best be compared to that of bands like and to which a hefty cosmic injection has been added. … the re-release of Energy Control Center, they are finally pulled out of obscurity and now everyone can enjoy their languid grooves with lead roles for the Fender Rhodes and the horn section. Here and there the listener is startled by wild, haunted free jazz themes, but that should not spoil the fun. This release includes an extra CD with alternative takes, previously unreleased material, and a voluminous booklet about the history of the band by CD standards. (AD)more
