Following his acclaimed piano trio albums, Christian McBride presents a new, piano-less quartet. McBride is a much sought-after, virtuoso and diverse bass player. Since the nineties he has released his own albums with diverse styles such as fusion, big band and neo-bop. His band New Jawn seems to be inspired by 's groundbreaking free jazz quartet , without a pianist and with sax and trumpet.
Musically there is also an audible reference to Coleman's bluesy free jazz. As recently showed on (2018), this apparently chaotic, clashing and steamy jazz music sounds completely contemporary again. (MR)more
