It is remarkable how Craig Taborn's solid music, based on American jazz, finds a place in the catalog of the European jazz label ECM. This American pianist, improviser and composer grew up with heavy metal and modern classical music. He was also attracted to free jazz and rock souls like , and and also played with them. He was also part of more disciplined companies around and among others .
In his own quartet he chose drummer Dave King ( ) and reed player , musicians who are in turn just as versatile. On Daylight Ghosts the quartet goes on an adventurous adventure. Tightly composed jazz rock, loosely swinging Latin, minimal piano and electronics pieces and even psychedelics come together on an eclectic jazz album. With the owner of ECM Manfred Eicher traditionally in the producer role, this always continues to sound organic and atmospheric. (MR)more
