Tineke Postma and Greg Osby's Sonic Halo is an album full of contrasts. First of all, there is the difference between man and woman, but under penalty of being accused of discrimination, we must not take that too seriously. They both have a completely different playing style. Osby, from the New York M-Base scene, plays energetic and funky, while Postma brings her melodic European influences. They
… both know how to bring their input into a perfect balance. Certainly not always easy, but innovative. But there are also similarities. They both play soprano sax, which results in one of the few albums with two solo soprano saxophonists. Osby was once Postma's teacher, but now he readily admits that he can learn a thing or two from her. Since both wind instruments keep on challenging each other, Sonic Halo has become a very complicated album, in which the soloists constantly push each other's boundaries. Not easy, but penetrating.
