The at first sight strange combination of drums, guitar and horn actually turns out very harmonious. That is entirely the credit of those who play the instruments. The foundation is laid by guitarist Timon Koomen and drummer Remco Menting. Koomen plays a lot of chords and bass lines, so that there is a lot of room for horn player Morris Kliphuis. All three play parts over and over each other,
… sometimes resulting in wall-to-wall harmonies, sometimes in pleasant chaos. However, enough air is always audible; after all, there are only three of them. Kapok sounds modern, partly because the men do not shy away from using effects (such as a distortion or an echo machine). It is music that is married to jazz, but flirts with pop, funk and rock.
