The three Keith Jarrett (piano), Gary Peacock (bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums) are almost affectionately called 'Standards Trio'. Piano virtuoso Jarrett brought this band together in 1983 to revive proven jazz standards, at a time when hardly anyone did. They never got tired of each other and this repertoire, because albums with arrangements of jazz classics continue to be released regularly. In
… between are also a few exciting improvisation records such as Changes (1983), Changeless (1987) and Inside Out (2000). Somewhere opens in that style, with the cosmic Deep Space. It sounds tested but timeless: Jarrett, growling and snarling, recklessly embarks on an adventure on his keyboard, hesitating and searching for him, has found his way with an enthusiastic cry and his rhythm section blindly follows him in it. After this beautiful opener, another office day for the trio starts, with standards like Somewhere and I Thought About You. Songs that are performed no less adventurous and virtuoso, but also do not add anything new to previous records. (MR)more
