Just as no trumpeter can ignore Miles Davis and no saxophonist can ignore John Coltrane, pianist Bill Evans, who died in 1980, is considered the greatest innovator of jazz piano. Pianist Chick Corea makes no secret that Evans has always been a major influence on his playing. In 2010 he formed a trio with drummer Paul Motian and bassist Eddie Gomez who were both part of the Bill Evans Trio at different
… periods. The trio played in the New York Blue Note Jazz Club. These live recordings show that it has cooked a lot there from time to time. The group literally takes off with the Bill Evans repertoire and knows how to push each other up on two CDs full of pure jazz. The lyricism and fragility of their great inspiration is never let go. As if the spirit of Evans himself was moving across the stage to spur the musicians on. (MR)more
