In May 2010, a group gathered at Sear Sound Studios in Manhattan for a one-of-a-kind recording session. It involved a number of exceptional jazz musicians, some of whom have played with Miles Davis and others are among New York's best Latin jazz musicians. The result of this meeting is called Miles Espanol, a name that fully covers it. The project is twofold. On the one hand it uses Davis's songs
… as a starting point, although the musicians arrange them in a traditional Spanish, Latin or Moorish way. On the other hand, this double CD contains a number of new compositions by the participants. Remarkable is the poignant lack of trumpet, as if no one dared to venture into the master's parts. Despite this, Miles Espanol has become an impressive sequel to the original. (AD)more
