With Neighborhood (2005) and Playground (2007), French drummer Manu Katché released two highly acclaimed CDs. The genius of those albums lies in the fact that they offer a kind of light groove jazz that appeals to almost everyone, while the music is so well put together that also jazz critics can be satisfied. With Metropolitain bassist Kyle Eastwood delivers a similar production. It is therefore
… not surprising that the best songs of the album are drummed by Katché. Other well-known musicians on Metropolitain are trumpet player Till Brönner and keyboard player Eric Legnini. Eastwood himself stands his ground on double bass and especially bass guitar, for example with his playing of the flageolet in Song For You. Kyle is the son of Clint Eastwood. In addition to musical partner Michael Stevens, he brought in several famous family members for the production of Metropolitain, such as Erin Davis (Miles's son) and Ben Cullum (Jamie's brother). Darwinists may consider whether it is a gene issue, but Metropolitain is at least a nice CD. (HB)more
