'The trumpet of Vloeimans is a liberated trumpet', according to writer / columnist Martin Bril, who died on April 22, 2009. Early that year he discovered Vloeimans' CD Summersault (2006) and wrote a beautiful piece about it in De Volkskant. Vloeimans recorded this CD full of intuitive 'chamber jazz' with his trio Fugimundi, further consisting of guitarist Anton Goudsmit and pianist Harmen Fraanje.
He toured the United States with them in the autumn of 2008. A performance in a well-known jazz club in Oakland is recorded on this CD Live At Yoshi's. Here too this perfectly coordinated trio treats the listener to its unique mix of exuberant jazz improvisations and chamber music. Martin Bril wrote the liner notes for this CD. In what is probably one of his last pieces, he looks for the correct description of the music: modest, cheerful, enchanting, melancholic. In the end he finds it in the name of the trumpet player: 'Vloeimans (...) fluid (...) flowing like water, flowing like a dance and flowing like life itself'. (HB)more
