The Phonebone Quintet was founded in 1994 by saxophonist Allard Buwalda, trombonist Martijn Sohier, pianist Joe Dinkelbach, bassist Frans van Geest and drummer Hans Dekker and specialized in jazz originals and similar own compositions. … found out that the blood was crawling where it could not go and finally decided to enter the studio with their repertoire. Miraculously, the band members did not need sheet music as they still knew their parts completely by heart. Hence the title, which refers to the good memory of an elephant. The originals are provided with their own arrangements, with tinkering with the melody, harmony and shape of the pieces without sacrificing strength. (AD)more
