With the arrival of guitarist Frank Möbus from the Der Rote Bereich trio, the Yuri Honing Trio was renamed Wired Paradise. In addition to the wide range of musical influences that the trio was familiar with, such as hard bop, pop, country, classical music from the Middle East and reggae, the arrival of Möbus also added electricity to the repertoire. Tony Overwater exchanged his double bass for an
… electric one and drummer Joost Lijbaart focused more on the angular rhythms that can be found in rock. They also stopped making jazz arrangements of pop songs, perhaps temporarily. Wired Paradise is entirely filled with compositions of his own hand and can be seen as a logical continuation of Alive, the previous CD by the Yuri Honing Trio. Just as adventurous, just as versatile. The ease with which Wired Paradise maneuvers between funk, languid reggae and stylistic atmospheric images is astonishing and proves that this band is one of the greatest innovators in the Dutch jazz world.
