The Frisian Tineke Postma started playing saxophone, piano and flute at the age of nine. In 2002 she received two grants to study at the prestigious Manhattan School Of Music in New York, where she studied with Dick Oatts, David Liebman and Chris Potter. In 2003 she graduated cum laude from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Between 2002 and 2004 she won the Prize for Young Talent, the Ernst & Young
… Prize and she came second in the election of the Pim Jacobs Prize. Her debut First Avenue (2003) was especially well received in America, where she managed to conquer nineteenth place in the JazzWeek Charts for three weeks. Like its predecessor, For The Rhythm also consists of its own pieces and well-known standards. She is accompanied by drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, bass players Daryl Hall and Jeroen Vierdag, pianist Rob van Bavel and guitarist Edoardo Righini. (AD)more
