Jazz stands for musical freedom, which is why collaborations between jazz musicians are often only temporary in nature. An exception to this rule is the trio of pianist Keith Jarrett - with bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette - who have been playing together for over twenty years at the time of writing. Keith Jarrett has a thing for Germany. In Cologne he recorded his famous LP The
… Köln Concert in 1972, the first of a series of improvised solo concerts, with which he established his name with a wide audience. The Out-Of-Towners was recorded in 2001 in Munich, home of the ECM label, and it was another memorable concert. As usual, the trio plays a number of standards (including by Cole Porter and Gerry Mulligan) and some own compositions. As Jarrett himself says: 'in jazz, it's not the material, it' s what you bring to the material '. On this inspired sounding and crystal clear recorded CD, this trio proves that this statement is right. (MS)more
