In honor of his 40th anniversary this year, the now 60-year-old pianist Louis van Dijk is releasing the CD Jubilee. He is assisted on the album by 'old' swing veterans John Engels (drums), Ruud Jacobs (bass), Frits Landesbergen (drums), Edwin Corzilius (bass), Jeroen de Rijk (percussion) and Bart van Lier (trombone) . For this CD, the jubilee returns to the chamber jazz of his first albums from the
… early sixties. And just like in those days, the basis is again the trio. The repertoire consists of a number of well-chosen classics: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Yesterdays, Love For Sale, and Stars Fell On Alabama. The album ends with a worthy closing song Blues For Pim. A well-deserved tribute to Pim Jacobs, his piano partner, who passed away five years ago. After more than 70 recordings, Jubilee concludes a 40-year period in which he consciously or unconsciously influenced several generations with his eminent playing. Or to speak with Gerard Reve: 'It did not go unnoticed'. (RM) _more
