Adventurous and inventive is the playing of one of the greatest pianists of the current jazz scene, Jacky Terrasson. On Alive he can be heard together with bassist Ugonna Okegwo and drummer Leon Parker. This trio plays jazz performances of classics full of surprises and unexpected twists. Terrasson's compositions, on the other hand, sound like standards again. The collaboration between these musicians
… that has been going on for six years is noticeable in their mutual coordination. In Love For Sale Terrasson borrows one of Herbie Hancock's most popular funky-rock bass lines from the jazz cracker Chameleon; bass player Okegwo also has a major role to play. Terrasson pays tribute to the legendary drummer Tony Williams through his composition Sister Cheryl. Terrasson's own composition Cumba's Dance is exciting, a simple melody that is played at an increasing tempo. Nature Boy received a special and hip arrangement. Also interesting is the own composition Fog Taking Over Noe Valley. This CD immediately attracts attention with the first track Things Ain't What They Used To Be and remains fascinating until the last track, the traditional There's No Disappointment In Heaven.
