Fine easy-listening jazz can be heard on guitarist Thom Rotella's "Can't stop". Rotella mainly made a name for himself through the perfect recordings for the DMP label, on which his sound came out very well. He still has that sound, although it has become a bit smoother, more commercially responsible. Rotella is on this CD in the company of Gerald Albright (soprano and tenor sax), Mitchel Forman
… (electric piano), Vail Johnson (bass), Rick Braun (trumpet / flugelhorn) and Jim Studer (keyboards / synthesizers). Incidentally, Rotella could be heard on many disco albums in the 1970s, he contributed to Donna Summer's "Last dance". On this new CD he incorporated influences from contemporary music such as that of Jamiroque, dance and R&B. Good uptempo songs are "What's the story" and the title track "Can't stop". Nice quiet songs include "Mood", "As close as we can get" and the closing song "Stay the night". Rotella wrote all ten songs for this CD himself. (JW) _more
