The Englishman Robin Nolan, who lives in Amsterdam, is considered one of the best gypsy jazz guitarists in the tradition of Django Reinhardt, who is represented at Organized Crime with no fewer than four compositions. With his brother Kevin on rhythm guitar and Simon Planting on bass, he has been honoring this music for years. For Organized Crime he invited violinist Daniel Lapp and fellow guitarists
… Jesse van Ruller, Anton Goudsmit, Jimmy Rosenberg and John Jorgenson who also plays the clarinet on Sweet Chorus. Nolan is in exactly the same waters as the Rosenberg Trio, but sounds just a bit more varied due to the presence of its guests. Especially Sweet Gitane with a guest role for Goudsmit delivers a wonderful combination due to his idiosyncratic guitar sound. Lapp's violin gives Isabel's Waltz an Irish atmosphere. (AD)more
