American singer, guitarist and songwriter Eric Bibb grew up in New York in the 1960s. His father was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene at the time. This allowed the young aspiring artist to take a good look around and listen to, for example, who gave him the tip around the age of eleven to always keep his playing simple: 'Forget all that fancy stuff'. An advice that Bibb took to heart, even
… when he later devoted himself fully to the blues. Booker's Guitar is full of basic folk blues, delta blues and gospel. 'Nothing fancy' but modest and with feeling played on guitar, sometimes accompanied by harmonica, and sung with a warm -baritone. The title track is about Bukka White and that gave Bibb the opportunity to play the guitar of this blues legend. Hero worship, the Bible and everyday feelings, Bibb always remains audibly close to himself. But blues and gospel are often about good and evil and there is no trace of the latter in Eric Bibb's soothing blues. (MR)more
